- Richard Hollick is the author of Making Book an enlightening look into the book world. He was born in Scotland and educated there and in England. After a youth spent in total devotion to rugby football, he started working for Cambridge University Press in 1965, where he remained in various capacities for 29 years in London, Cambridge, and finally New York. Most recently he did print-on-demand for Oxford University Press in New York.He writes about the publishing industry, book making and writing in general. He has some interesting insights and worth watching his rational predictions for the future. A blog to follow I suspect.

- Free Book Notes – A great resource for study and literary review of thousands of books.
- Book list – The digital counterpart of the American Library Association’s Booklist magazine. Reviews of the latest books and electronic media.
- Book Spot– Features book reviews and news, reading lists, and author and publisher information.
- CBC: Books– Articles and headline news from the Canadian broadcaster.
- A Celebration of Women Writers– Listing of links to biographical and bibliographical information about women writers, and complete published books written by women. Searchable by time period, country, and author’s last name.
- Dictionary of Phrase and Fable– Bartleby.com’s publication of Brewer’s classic. Includes derivation, source, or origin of common phrases, allusions, and words.
- Novel Guide– Provides study guides, literature profiles, metaphor and theme analysis, and author biographies for classic and contemporary works.
- Scotsman: Books– The literary pages of the Scotland daily; features reviews and author profiles. UK.
- Spark Notes.com– Study guides and discussion forums offered on various academic subjects. Literature section includes brief analyses of characters, themes and plots.
- Swiss Educ– Reading list for university study, with synopses, background and selected texts for works covered.
- Wikipedia – The internet community writes and manages this massive online encyclopaedia. Reasonably accurate information and useful as a starting point.
- DMOZ or the Open Encyclopedia of Internet Links – A wonderful site of all things internet. It has been around for over a decade and provides great international links to the Internet.
- Reddit – an entertainment, social networking service and news website where registered community members can submit content, such as text posts or direct links. Adult content so be warned and malware possible.
- Good Reads – if you enjoy reading and working out what others think of your books – this is the site for you. You can also keep track of your own library. It is a great site.
- World Meters – a fascinating approximation of what is happening in our world minute by minute – accuracy not guaranteed.
