Frey

Frey
Frey by Melissa Wright

My rating: 2 of 5 stars

It was a solid bit of fantasy with a lot of effort on creating a slightly different world to that traditionally examined with imps and fairies. I lost the plot at the end and will need to revisit as so much happened in a few pages that recast the whole character development of the protagonist. I do want to know more about Frey so maybe it deserves another star. The author has a creative view of magic that I like but at times a little more … explanation might help. Certainly worth a read if you like female heroines discovering themselves and their power.

From Goodreads
Unaware she’s been bound from using magic, Frey leads a small, miserable life in the village where she’s sent after the death of her mother. But a tiny spark starts a fury of changes and she finds herself running from everything she’s ever known.

Hunted by the council for practicing dark magic, she is certain she’s been wrongfully accused. She flees, and is forced to rely on strangers for protection. But the farther she strays from home, the more her magic and forgotten memories return and she begins to suspect all is not as it seems.
