Scott Fitzgerald’s third book, stands as the supreme achievement of his career. First published in 1925, this quintessential novel of the Jazz Age has been acclaimed by generations of readers. The story of the mysteriously wealthy Jay Gatsby and his love for the beautiful Daisy Buchanan, of lavish parties on Long Island at a time when The New York Times noted “gin was the national drink and sex the national obsession,” it is an exquisitely crafted tale of America in the 1920s.

The Great Gatsby by F. I understand it is a classic and studied in many high schools and for some reason has generated a plethora of movies and re-publications. There are some wonderful sentences and prose, it gives a vivid portrait of the ‘Roaring Twenties’ lifestyle of the wealthy and some of the evoked images are dramatic and stimulating. The story (as that is what it is) is however not that exciting or unique. It was worth a listen but it’s not a book I would want to read again.

From Goodreads A true classic of twentieth-century literature, this edition has been updated by Fitzgerald scholar James L.W.
