We listened to this as an audiobook but I would have to say I was underwhelmed. I understand it is a classic and studied in many high schools and for some reason has generated a plethora of movies and re-publications. There are some wonderful sentences and prose, it gives a vivid portrait of the ‘Roaring Twenties’ lifestyle of the wealthy and some of the evoked images are dramatic and stimulating. The story (as that is what it is) is however not that exciting or unique. It was worth a listen but it’s not a book I would want to read again.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
